15 Best Electric Toothbrushes (2019) – Most Popular Sellers

Complete Reviews With Comparisons

Dental health is one of the most important things which you can focus on in your life. No matter what age you are, it is important to look after your teeth and gums. If you take care of your teeth and gums, then you save yourself from a lot of pain in the future. You also save yourself from having to pay large dental bills. It makes sense to take proper care of your mouth.

When it comes to looking after your teeth, two things are essential – brushing and flossing. When it comes to brushing, a manual toothbrush can only do so much. What you really need to work out those stubborn stains and tough spots of plaque, is an electric toothbrush. With the ability to oscillate at speeds which are incomparable with manual brushes, there is no better way to clean your teeth; some can even floss as they brush.

We wanted to find the best electric toothbrushes out there. In our search, we found our new electric toothbrushes and we want to share this with you. We hope that our recommendations will help you to find the best electric toothbrush for your teeth. We narrowed our search down to 15 of The Best Electric Toothbrushes (2019) out there before making our final selection.

Are Electric Toothbrushes Worth Investing In?

Now, there is of course the question of pricing here. Yes, electric toothbrushes cost a whole lot more cash than your regular manual toothbrush.

A decent toothbrush will cost $10 or $15 at most, whereas an electric toothbrush can end up costing you a couple hundred dollars just for the purchase, plus replacement brush heads as well. However, when it comes down to it, electric toothbrushes are definitely worth the price when compared to the manual counterparts.

For one, electric toothbrushes are much more effective at removing plaque from teeth than manual toothbrushes. Simply put, they use special movements and vibrations to remove plaque, which is much more effective than simply rubbing back and forth with a manual brush.

Of course, this also leads to a higher level of tartar removal, and therefore also does a better job at preventing gingivitis and other forms of gum disease.

Furthermore, electric toothbrushes are also great for people with limited mobility. If you have carpal tunnel syndrome, or anything else which causes limited mobility, an electric toothbrush will definitely help make your life much easier.

They also have built-in timers, many of them do anyway, which help to ensure that you brush for the appropriate amount of time, which is normally two minutes. Normal toothbrushes can actually hurt your gums if not used correctly, which electric toothbrushes will not do.

4 Things To Consider When Choosing An Electric Toothbrush

1. Pressure Sensor

One important thing that you may want to look out for when purchasing an electric toothbrush is if it comes with a pressure sensor. Yes, you can brush too lightly or too hard. Brushing too lightly won’t remove enough plaque and results in inferior brushing. On the other hand, brushing too hard can be really bad for your gums. Therefore, a pressure sensor is important because it will tell you if you are brushing too hard or not hard enough.

2. A Timer

Another important factor to look out for when buying an electric toothbrush is whether or not it has a timer. Did you know that you are supposed to brush for 120 seconds, twice per day? Most people do not brush nearly as long as that. With that being said, a simple timer can make all of the difference. 2 minutes does seem like a very long time, especially if you have no reference to how much time has passed. A timer will solve this issue.

3. A Quad Timer

Now, when it comes to brushing, there are 4 quadrants in the mouth to pay attention to. These are the upper left, upper right, lower left, and lower right quadrants. Depending on which hand you use primarily, you might spend much more time on one quadrant, or two of them, than the others. This is of course not a good thing. A quadrant timer will tell you when to switch quadrants for even brushing.

4. The Battery

The other important feature to look out for is a good rechargeable battery. In theory, you want an electric toothbrush that has a rechargeable battery that can last for at least 3 years.

1. Oral-B White Pro 1000

best electric toothbrushes 2018

When you buy a dental product from Oral-B, you know that you are getting quality, more so when you know that it is powered by Braun. Oral-B and Braun have come together to create an electric toothbrush which will get to the root of all your problems.

Let’s start with the motor. The base plugs into the wall and allows you to recharge the battery when it is not in use. There is no need to use batteries with this model, simply plug in and let it do its job. When the toothbrush is charged, simply start it up, and the inbuilt timer will ensure that you brush your teeth for the correct amount of time, shutting itself off after two minutes and helping you to keep your teeth and gums in optimum condition.

The toothbrush also comes with a pressure sensor. If you are brushing too hard with the toothbrush, the pulsations will automatically stop, saving you from doing any damage to your gums.

The round brush head was inspired by dentists. The round head encases the teeth to not only clean but to also work between the teeth to remove particles much like flossing would. This is only one of the many advantages over using a traditional toothbrush.

The flossing action is achieved by the bristles being angled at 16 degrees to get in between your teeth for exceptional cleaning. The 3-D cleaning action oscillates, rotates, and pulsates to clean and break up and food and other debris on your teeth and gum line. When compared to a regular toothbrush, it has been found that this electric toothbrush will clean up to three times better. It is even ADA approved.

This electric toothbrush comes with one built-in mode for brushing. This mode features the pressure sensor brushing along with the 2-minute timer to give you a dentist-approved brushing. In fact, Oral-B is one of the most recommended brands by dentists around the world.

When it comes to replacing the brush head (which you should do every three months), this electric toothbrush is compatible with many other models of brush head, including Cross Action, 3D White, Sensitive Clean, Ortho, Deep Sweep, Dual Clean, and many more.

You do get one head included when you purchase this electric toothbrush; you also get the toothbrush itself and a charger. We like that you do not have to buy or replace batteries with this model.

This toothbrush will help you with your daily dental routine. The 2-minute timer is a great reminder of how long we should be brushing our teeth for and the oscillating head will really get in-between your teeth to clean them. The sensor is a really nice touch which will help you to apply the correct pressure when you are brushing your teeth, notifying you if you are going at it too hard. This is a great toothbrush for getting the job done.

Pros:

  • Rechargeable
  • 2 Minute Timer
  • ADA Approved
  • Angled Bristles

Cons:

  • Only 1 Mode

2. Phillips Sonicare Protective Clean 4100

best electric toothbrushes 2018

Phillips has become one of the leaders in dental technology. This is another brand of electric toothbrush which is heavily recommended by dentists around the world. The thing we like most about this toothbrush is that the sonic technology means you can really clean plaque and debris from your teeth while still gently cleaning your gums.

When you brush your teeth, you need to pay attention to your gums too, and this toothbrush will allow you to do that without aggravating them.

When you compare this toothbrush to a manual toothbrush, it is easy to see why it is recommended that you use an electric toothbrush to clean your teeth.

This one removes up to seven times more plaque than a manual toothbrush. It also has a built-in pressure sensor to specifically protect your gums from harm. If you are brushing too hard, then the sensor will alert you and protect you from doing any harm.

The Brush Sync technology tracks how long you have been brushing your teeth to ensure that you are cleaning your teeth for the correct amount of time (or that your kids are). When it comes time for you to replace your brush head, a sensor will also alert you, based on how long you have been using your toothbrush.

The great thing about the sonic technology in this toothbrush is that it can be used in almost any situation. From regular teeth to braces, fillings, crowns, and veneers, this toothbrush is safe for them all.

We like the curved power tip on the brush head. It is often hard to properly clean the teeth at the back of your mouth, especially if you have your wisdom teeth in, but the curved head makes cleaning them a breeze. The densely packed bristles, in conjunction with the brush head, mean that you can get around all of your teeth and get right to the back of your mouth without a lot of discomfort.

The sonic technology is what helps with this cleaning on all of your teeth. The high-speed vibrations power up to 31,000 brush strokes per minute. Your toothpaste is whipped up and driven through and between your teeth and into your gum line, cleaning gently but firmly to give a fresh and clean-mouth feeling.

One thing which sets this electric toothbrush apart is the easy-start program. When you switch to anything new, and especially when that tool is for something such as cleaning the inside of your mouth, it can be hard to adapt to it initially. This can put some people off. With the Phillips Sonicare, you have the option to start gently and slowly and work your way up.

The easy-start program allows you to start brushing with a gentler program and slowly work your way up over the course of several days. Over two weeks, the system will move from a gentle brushing to the full program, allowing you to ease yourself into the new system.

This is a great toothbrush for anyone, and the easy-start program makes it great for children or those who have difficulties brushing.

Pros:

  • Rechargeable
  • 2 Minute Timer
  • Pressure Sensor For Gums
  • Easy Start Programme

Cons:

  • Can Be A Bit Noisy

3. Oral-B Genius Pro 8000

best electric toothbrush 2018

This is another Oral-B electric toothbrush which is powered by Braun, so you know that you are getting a quality unit. Like all of the electric toothbrushes on our list so far, this is another one which is recommended by dental associations around the world. When it comes to teeth, dentists know a thing or two.

The brush head on this electric toothbrush has been inspired by dentists. The round head is just large enough to surround each tooth, and the angled bristles are specifically placed to get in-between your teeth to minimise the need for flossing. The angled bristles also ensure that you get along your gum line and clean any debris which is residing along and under it.

The visible pressure sensor will also ensure that you are not brushing too hard when you are working along your gum line. If you are applying too much pressure, the light where the brush head connects to the base will illuminate, alerting you that you are using too much pressure.

Brushing your gum line is an important part of brushing your teeth, but you want to ensure that you are not applying too much pressure or you can damage your gums and cause bleeding.

When it comes to power, this brush has it, and we are not just talking about the oscillation in the brush head. You have six brushing modes which you can choose from, allowing you to choose the program which is right for you and your teeth.

The six modes include tongue brushing, daily clean, sensitive, gum care, whitening, and pro-clean. By choosing between the modes, you will ensure that your mouth is clean, and not only your teeth.

Another great thing about this electric toothbrush is the real-time feedback you get over Bluetooth. Whenever you are brushing your teeth, the toothbrush will track how you are brushing and for how long, to give you visual feedback on the length of time you are brushing and the placement of the toothbrush on your teeth. The result is a toothbrush which almost acts like a personal dentist.

When we compared this electric toothbrush to others on the market, one area which it excelled in was holding a charge. Once you charge the base, it does not need to be charged for a long time after. The other great thing is the way in which you can charge it.

You can charge your toothbrush via USB, meaning that you do not necessarily need a wall plug. Once your electric toothbrush is charged, you will have enough charge in the lithium-ion battery to last you a full two weeks.

This is a great toothbrush for anyone who wants a little more than most electric toothbrushes will offer you. The six brush modes mean that you can tailor your brushing a lot more than many electric toothbrushes and especially when compared to a manual toothbrush.

This toothbrush is also great for travel. Simply charge the toothbrush before you go or take advantage of the USB charging capability to top up the charge as you navigate the world. This is a great dentist-inspired toothbrush which will give you a great brushing experience and leave you feeling fresh and clean.

Pros:

  • Angled Bristles
  • Pressure Sensor
  • Round Brush Head
  • 6 Modes

Cons:

  • Positional brushing takes time to master

4. Fairywill Electric Toothbrush

best electric toothbrushes 2018

When it comes to cleaning teeth, you may not have heard of Fairywill, but you will be glad that you now have. Fairywill is a rising company in dental hygiene and are already making waves when it comes to competing with the big names in electric toothbrushes.

You may not have heard of this company, but dentists have, and this is another electric toothbrush which they recommend for keeping your teeth clean and healthy.

When you use an electric toothbrush, you want something which can give you a lot of strokes per minute; that is one of the main reasons to switch over from manual to electric. This brush gives you 35,000 strokes per minutes, really cleaning the plaque and dirt from your teeth.

When compared with a manual toothbrush, you are removing twice as much plaque with this brush than you would if you were manipulating a brush yourself.

The electric toothbrush also comes with the claim that after seven days, you will have healthier teeth than ever before (compared to manual brushing), and after 14 days, you will have better gum and oral health than ever before.

This electric toothbrush is aimed at families and family dental care. We really love the price point of this toothbrush which makes it affordable for each member of your family to have their own electric toothbrush.

This electric toothbrush may not come with all of the bells and whistles of a more powerful (and expensive) toothbrush, but there is enough here to tackle all of your dental problems.

You have three optional modes when it comes to brushing your teeth: strong for getting rid of plaque and stubborn stains, gentle for sensitive teeth and gums, and inverted frequency for gum care.

One thing we really like about this electric toothbrush is the length of battery life. The electric toothbrush does not come with a wall plug to charge with. Instead, you have a USB connection which is great for almost any home.

When you charge this toothbrush, you get more charge than many competitors, and it charges quicker too. After four hours of charging, you will get 30 days of use. Many rival brands take four or five times as long to charge, and you only get half the battery life.

Another great thing about this brush is that it is completely waterproof. You can use it in the shower if you wish. This means that it is also great for younger kids who may submerge it in water accidentally or get water on it.

This product comes with everything you need to take care of your teeth and oral health. You get the base and handle, along with three replacement heads. There is a protective bristle cover to help the bristles in shape when you are not brushing. You also get a USB cable which can plug into any USB outlet. This is a great toothbrush for any member of your family.

Pros:

  • 3 Replacement Heads
  • Long-lasting Battery
  • Eases You Into A Routine
  • 3 Modes
  • Affordable

Cons:

  • Not As Powerful As Other Models

5. Oral-B Pro 1500 CrossAction

best electric toothbrushes 2018

Once again, Oral-B and Braun have teamed up to bring you a high-quality electric toothbrush. Oral-B has worked heavily with dentists from around the world to ensure that their toothbrushes meet high standards and are designed to give you the cleanest teeth and best oral health.

This is another toothbrush on their list which performs admirably for them. Once you are done brushing with this electric toothbrush, you will never again return to a manual brush.

Many electric toothbrushes are recommended by dentists, but this is one of the first to be accepted by the American Dental Association. When it comes to oscillating electric toothbrushes, this is one of the top ones in that category, according to the ADA.

There were two main factors involved in that decision: the fact that this toothbrush helps to remove plaque and that it helps to reduce (and prevent) gingivitis. This is an electric toothbrush which will really improve your dental health.

The small brush head on this toothbrush is the perfect size to surround your tooth and clean all around it. The dentist-inspired round brush head has angled bristles to being you a cross-action motion when you are cleaning your teeth.

This motion of brush head combined with the angled bristles means that not only are your teeth cleaned many times better than a manual toothbrush but the spaces between your teeth (even small spaces) and cleaned. This between-teeth cleaning means that you do not have to worry about your flossing as much (though it is still recommended by dentists).

This electric toothbrush comes with all of the main functions which are now associated with an Oral-B brush. You have a visible pressure sensor, a light which will come on if you are brushing too hard to alert you to that fact. This helps to protect your gums, especially at the gum line.

You get a lithium-ion battery which will last up to fourteen days between brushing. You also have a 2-minute timer to ensure that you are brushing your teeth for the correct amount of time.

This is an electric toothbrush that we would recommend for anyone, but especially for those who have teeth or gum problems. The oscillating head and angled bristles help you to get to the root of your problems, getting between your teeth and into your gum line to give you exceptional dental health.

The combination of the pressure sensor, timer, and small brush head give you a cleaning which rivals that of a dentist. We love the cross action bristles for a great clean.

Pros:

  • ADA Approved
  • Angled Bristles
  • 2 Minute Timer
  • Lithium-ion Battery

Cons:

  • Does Not Hold Charge As Long As Other Models

6. Phillips Sonicare Protective Clean 5100

best electric toothbrushes 2018

If you are looking for healthier gums, along with healthier teeth, then look no further than this electric toothbrush from Phillips. When it comes to healthier gums, this electric toothbrush will improve your gum health by up to 100% when compared to a regular manual toothbrush.

The unique sonic technology developed by Phillips helps to sweep away any plaque which may be residing in your gums and on your teeth. The result is an amazing-feeling mouth.

When it comes to cleaning your gums, you want to get in and under your gum line to remove the plaque and debris there, but you do not want to damage your gums by brushing too hard. This electric toothbrush comes with a built-in pressure sensor to ensure that you do not brush too hard and damage your gums.

One thing which we love about this toothbrush is the Brush Sync technology. The Phillips technology communicates with your toothbrush to automatically select the best mode and intensity for your brushing. This is great for anyone who has problems with their teeth and gums and has not yet managed to find a brushing solution.

Whenever you click a new brush head onto your Phillips electric toothbrush, your toothbrush knows exactly which setting to choose for you based on that. This means that you do not have to think about selecting a mode for your brushing, you can leave it up to the toothbrush to decide.

The toothbrush can also detect how long you have been using your toothbrush head for and how hard you have been using it to brush. Based on those two factors, the toothbrush will recommend when it is time to replace your brush head. A light will appear on the handle when it is time to do so.

This electric toothbrush also comes with a premium travel case to protect your brush head and prolong the life of it. The travel case also helps you to store your electric toothbrush more hygienically than others on the market. Keeping your toothbrush clean is the first step to keeping your mouth clean.

This is a great toothbrush which we would recommend to anyone, especially those who are on the go a lot and do a lot of travelling. The sonic technology is completely safe and can be used by anyone, including those with braces, fillings, crowns, or veneers.

The sonic technology combined with the inbuilt selection modes ensures that you get the best brushing every time you clean your teeth and gums.

A great toothbrush for every member of the family, including children and those who have sensitive teeth or gums.

Pros:

  • Great For Gums
  • Sonic Technology
  • Gentle Yet Powerful
  • Built In Pressure System

Cons:

  • Replacing The Heads Is Quite Expensive

7. Phillips Sonicare For Kids

best electric toothbrushes 2018

This electric toothbrush for children has Bluetooth capabilities and an included app. This helps children to not only brush their teeth with the proper care and attention but to learn about oral health as they are doing so.

This is one of the few rechargeable electric toothbrushes on the market for kids. Most come with batteries which need to be bought and replaced. This toothbrush is fully rechargeable so that kids can take full control of their brushing and oral health.

Not only that, but the interactive app also helps them to educate themselves about why oral health is so important and what steps to take to ensure that you are brushing your teeth correctly.

The app helps to make the brushing process fun for younger kids instead of being a chore. Before your kid brushes their teeth, they can check the app for brushing tips which they can put into practice straight away.

The interactive and cute guide gives visual guides on brushing and ridding your mouth of bacteria, ensuring that your child brushes every part of their mouth. The app also tracks your child’s brushing, allowing your child to track their brushing sessions and duration of brushing. It helps them to set goals and motivates them to continue with a recommended brushing schedule.

This electric toothbrush for children can deliver an astounding 500 brush strokes every second. When you compare this to a manual toothbrush, there really is no comparison, especially if your child is doing the brushing themselves. We like that your child, no matter their age, will get a dentist-like brushing without you having to do the bulk of brushing for them.

The toothbrush also comes with a built-in timer so that your child is brushing for the correct amount of time. Each time your child brushes their teeth, they will do so for the full two minutes, the recommended amount of time.

Kids love to customise their things, and this toothbrush allows them to do just that. There are eight stickers which are completely interchangeable. Your child will love to customise their own toothbrush by adding and removing the sticker options.

This is a great option if you are having problems motivating your children to bush their own teeth. It is recommended that you brush your kid’s teeth up to the age of eight years old, but even after that age, children can sometimes struggle to brush their own teeth correctly. With this toothbrush and app, older and younger children are able to better brush their teeth.

The app is also a great way to educate and motivate your child, especially in this world of developing technology. This toothbrush is a great way to make bedtimes more fun and brushing teeth something to look forward to.

Pros:

  • For Kids
  • Bluetooth Connected
  • Interactive App
  • 62,000 Strokes Per Minute

Cons:

  • The Vibrating Mode Can Be A Bit Too Much For Smaller Kids

8. Oral-B Pro 5000 SmartSeries

best electric toothbrushes 2018

Oral-B and Braun have come together once more to create an electric toothbrush which has been designed in conjunction with dentists. One thing which dentists recommend more than anything else is flossing. Of course, they always recommend brushing, but more people neglect to floss over brushing. When this toothbrush was designed and created, it was done so with that information in mind.

This toothbrush may not replace flossing completely, but it does give a floss-like clean, cutting down on the amount of flossing which you need to do and improving your overall dental health.

The floss-action brush head has angled bristles to get in between your teeth for an exceptional clean. The brush head is also small enough to fit around each of your teeth as it cleans. The micro-pulse bristles do not replace flossing, but you will find it easier and quicker to floss when you use this electric toothbrush.

This is one of the few electric toothbrushes which uses Bluetooth technology to provide real-time feedback about your brushing habits.

The Bluetooth connection provides communication between the electric toothbrush and your smart device to give you feedback on your performance and recommend how to improve your brushing. It is like having your own personal dentist in your bathroom, without the weirdness which that would entail.

Along with the feedback, you also get 3D brushing. The brush head oscillates, pulsates, and rotates to break up the most stubborn debris and plaque while removing the toughest stains on your teeth. When you compare the cleaning action to a regular manual toothbrush, you will wonder why you never started using an electric toothbrush earlier.

This toothbrush from Oral-B comes with all of the features which you would expect of a top-end toothbrush. There is a visible pressure sensor on the handle; a light will come on if you are brushing too hard, helping to protect your gums and your gum line.

There are also five brushing modes, including daily clean, sensitive, gum care, whitening and deep clean – there is a mode for everyone and every situation. Of course, you have a built-in 2-minute timer to ensure that you brush your teeth for the correct amount of time, as recommended by dentists everywhere.

Talking of dentists anywhere, Oral-B was one of the first electric toothbrush officially accepted by the ADA. This toothbrush will help to remove plaque along with helping to reduce and prevent gingivitis.

This is a great toothbrush for anyone wanting to improve their dental hygiene. The brush head and oscillation will do a far superior job than brushing with a manual toothbrush will, and the addition of a feedback loop will help you to brush your teeth as well as you are able to. Great for any member of the family.

Pros:

  • Floss Like Clean
  • Bluetooth Feedback
  • 5 Modes Of Brushing
  • Affordable

Cons:

  • Charging Light Is Bright

9. Phillips Sonicare 2 Series

Best electric toothbrushes 2018

When it comes to electric toothbrushes, you want something which is simple and easy to use. This electric toothbrush from Phillips is just that. With easy to use functions and a long battery life, your bathroom is not cluttered, and your toothbrush is simple and intuitive.

This Phillips electric toothbrush features sonic technology for a superior clean. There really is no comparison when you compare this to a manual toothbrush, but when you compare this toothbrush to other electric models on the market, this one from Phillips outperforms them all. The sonic technology uses a dynamic cleaning action to reach deep between your teeth while still gently cleaning your teeth and gums.

With 31,000 strokes per minute, this brush will take care of the toughest stains, most stubborn plaque, and stuck debris while not damaging your gums as you run the bristles over them. Even if you have orthodontics, veneers, or other dental work, this toothbrush will be safe to use on any of them.

We love the simplicity of this toothbrush, making it easy to use for adults and children alike. The bristles on the brush head are curved to match the shape of your teeth. When you place the brush head on one of your teeth, the head will encompass it and clean all over and around the sides, giving you a clean which is unlike any other.

There is a long power-tuft at the end of the brush head which gets into those hard-to-reach places which other toothbrushes cannot get into. The high bristle count also means that the brush head is in contact with your teeth more than other brush heads, bringing you more cleaning time for each individual tooth.

When it is time to change your brush head, the brush head itself will alert you. The blue bristles are reminder bristles.

The colour will fade over time, turning from blue to white. When they are completely white, it is time to change your brush head. We like how easy it is to accomplish this task, all it takes is a quick action to remove one head and snap on the other.

We like the handle too. A good grip and ergonomic design of handle is not something which is often talked about when it comes to electric toothbrushes, but this one feels really great in your hand.

The long battery life on this electric toothbrush is a real time and space saver. You do not need to worry about having a charger plugged in constantly; you can get two weeks’ worth of brushing on each charge. When it does come time to charge, the charger is so small that you will not even notice it there.

This is a great electric toothbrush for everyone and comes with the standard 2-minute timer to ensure that everyone in the family is brushing their teeth for the correct amount of time.

Pros:

  • 2 Week Battery Life
  • Easy To Use
  • High Quality
  • Affordable

Cons:

  • Can Be Loud

10. Phillips Sonicare Essence

best electric toothbrushes 2018

Philips has a great reputation for creating great electric toothbrushes, along with other dental hygiene tools. This electric toothbrush has been designed to tackle plaque, gums, teeth, and dental hygiene but there has also been a real focus on the ergonomics of this toothbrush.

The bristles on the brush head are contoured to match the natural shape of your teeth. This gives you a more comfortable experience when you are brushing your teeth, great for those who have sensitive teeth and gums, or a gag reflex. The bristles are contoured for comfort, but they also give superior cleaning.

The neck is also angled. What does this mean for you? The angled neck gives optimum reach, allowing the brush head and the comfortable bristles to get to every single tooth in your mouth.

The soft ends on the bristles are then able to penetrate the spaces between your teeth, helping to floss between your teeth without having to floss. The soft-touch grip on the toothbrush handle has also been designed with comfort in mind; the soft grip makes it more comfortable to hold and maneuver when you are brushing.

This is an extremely easy and simple toothbrush to use. When you start out, you only need to apply light pressure on your teeth and gums for the electric toothbrush to do its job. The high-speed bristles will do the remainder of the job for you.

The easy-start option also allows you to ease yourself into a new brushing routine over your first six days or twelve uses. This starts you off gently which is a great benefit if you are transferring over from a manual toothbrush for the very first time.

As all good electric toothbrushes should, this electric toothbrush comes with a 2-minute timer to ensure that you are using it for the correct amount of time. Once the time is up, the toothbrush will automatically shut off for you.

Once the toothbrush is fully charged, you will get two weeks or 28 brushings before you have to charge the toothbrush again, great if you are travelling. The toothbrush also has a light which will begin to blink when the electric toothbrush needs to be charged, ensuring that you are never left without charge in it.

The thing which surprised us most about this toothbrush is the price. When we looked at this toothbrush, we fell in love with the style. When we saw how affordable the toothbrush was, we were blown away.

This toothbrush looks and acts like a premium toothbrush but is extremely affordable. We would recommend this toothbrush for anyone, adult or child. The waterproofing makes it especially safe for children.

  • 30 Day Battery Life
  • 40,000 Strokes Per Minute

Cons:

  • Only USB Charging

13. Rotary Electric Toothbrush

best electric toothbrushes 2018

This is another electric toothbrush which looks amazing. Most electric toothbrushes come in white but this toothbrush comes in black which is a nice alternative to the norm.

So, what do you get with this set? You get the electric toothbrush handle, two round replacement heads, a USB charging cable, instruction manual, and a one-year warranty. The warranty is especially handy.

You get a lot of features with this toothbrush. Firstly, the toothbrush oscillates at 8800 oscillations per minute. This gives you dynamic cleaning which gets rid of plaque and stains. The rounded brush head is also perfect for getting into the space between your teeth.

The small brush head surrounds each tooth individually to provide exceptional cleaning, one tooth at a time. It also gets into the gaps and down to your gums.

When you switch from a manual toothbrush to this electric toothbrush, you will find that you have removed twice as much plaque after 1 week of brushing. You will also notice improved gum health after 2 weeks of brushing. Along with that, you will have whiter teeth. Your overall gum and tooth health will be drastically improved when you switch from a manual toothbrush.

The smart timer inbuilt into this toothbrush also has intelligent memory. This means that when you start brushing, a two-minute timer will start. The toothbrush will shut off when the two minutes are up; you know when you are done brushing.

The great thing about the intelligent memory is that you can pause your brushing for 30 seconds. If you need to stop, you do not have to stop the timer and start again; you can stop for 30 seconds and resume your 2-minute brushing after.

The brush will also track what area of your mouth you are brushing and remind you to change to another area so that all your teeth are cleaned and not only some for two minutes.

This electric toothbrush comes with three optional cleaning modes. You have a regular clean for getting rid of the stains and plaque, this mode is great for most users. You also have a sensitive mode; this is great for this who have sensitive teeth or gums and will have a gentler oscillation speed. The massage mode will give your gums a massage to promote healthier gums.

This product also comes with a long battery life. Once the electric toothbrush is charged, you will have 14 days of use before needing to charge it again. This is a great toothbrush for anyone, and we would especially recommend it to those who have sensitive teeth or gums.

Pros:

  • 1 Year Warranty
  • Long Lasting Battery
  • Waterproof
  • Lightweight

Cons:

  • For Adults Only

14. Sonicool Sonic Electric Toothbrush

best electric toothbrushes 2018

This is another affordable electric toothbrush on our list which comes with everything you need to protect and care for your teeth and gums. Out of the package, you get a toothbrush handle, four replacement brush heads, charging station, Sonicool pouch, travel box, and user manual.

The 4 replacement brush heads are especially generous and ensure that you will not have to buy replacements for a long time. This is impressive when you look at the price of this model. You get a lot for a low price but do you get the performance too?

Thankfully, you do. This toothbrush oscillates at 48,000 times a minute making it one of the most powerful toothbrushes on the market. The advanced sonic technology, combined with the speed of oscillations, rotations, and pulsations remove up to three times more plaque from your teeth and gum line when you compare it to a manual toothbrush.

The design has been inspired by dentists to bring brush heads which surround each tooth to get a deep clean on the surface of the teeth and down between your teeth. Sonicool is a great brand which has been trusted by dental professionals for years.

One thing we really like about this electric toothbrush is the pause after every thirty seconds. When you begin brushing, a 2-minute timer will start to ensure that you brush your teeth for the correct time.

After each 30-seconds of brushing time, the toothbrush will pause to remind you to change the quadrant you are brushing. This ensures that you clean all four quadrants of your mouth, and each tooth receives equal cleaning time.

There are 3 brushing modes built into this toothbrush. The whitening mode is where you have the 48,000 oscillations, and will help to remove stubborn stains from your teeth. The cleaning mode oscillates at 41,000 times per minutes and will remove plaque and clean your teeth. The sensitive setting will oscillate at 31,000 times per minute.

The sensitive mode is great if you have sensitive teeth or gums; the lower oscillation rate will help protect your teeth and gums as it cleans. It only takes 15 hours to fully charge the toothbrush, and once it is fully charged, each charge will last for 240 minutes. This is enough time to last you for a month if you are using it twice a day for the recommended two minutes.

When the power gets low in the toothbrush, a small light will begin to blink to alert you. This makes it a great toothbrush for travelling with. You also have the travel case to protect the toothbrush as it is in transit.

This is another great toothbrush for the entire family, and it comes at a reasonable price. This electric toothbrush will clean even the dirtiest teeth, but that is not what we most like about it.

We love the reminder to change the area you are brushing, especially with kids. A lot of kids can zone out when they are using an electric toothbrush. This function will ensure that they are brushing their teeth for the correct amount of time and capturing all of their teeth.

Pros:

  • 48,000 Vibration Per Minute
  • 3 Brushing Modes
  • Easy To Use
  • Fast Charging

Cons:

  • Only USB Charging

The effective sonic cleaning of this toothbrush will leave your teeth feeling clean and smooth, and your mouth feeling fresh and clean. The sonic cleaning helps promote stronger and healthier teeth. You will smile more than ever after brushing your teeth with this toothbrush.

As with all electric toothbrushes, this electric toothbrush comes with a 2-minute timer. When you begin to brush, the timer will start and ensure that you are brushing your teeth for the recommended time.

After each 30-second segment, the toothbrush will pause, reminding you to move onto the next area of your mouth. This ensures that you do not forget to clean all of your teeth and are not fixated on one area.

Both the inside and outside of this toothbrush have been designed to be waterproof. This makes it safe to be handled by children and to place under running water when you are cleaning it after brushing. When you are brushing, you have three modes available to you.

The whitening mode will oscillate faster than the regular mode and help to remove stubborn stains from your teeth. The regular mode is safe for your gums and will also effectively clean your teeth. The sensitive mode is great for those who have sensitive teeth or gums. It will oscillate at a lower speed but still high enough to clean while protecting your teeth and gums.

There is a long battery life in this model, and it charges in a short amount of time. After 15 hours of charging, you have 30 days of battery life, based on using it twice a day for two minutes each time. This toothbrush comes with two replacement heads and a neat storage case. We would recommend this as a great gift to a family member or friend. It is also a great present for yourself.

Final Verdict: Our Choice?

best electric toothbrushes 2018

There are a lot of good toothbrushes on our list, so many, in fact, that it is hard to choose just one winner.

After a lot of careful deliberation, we decided on the Oral-B Pro 5000 SmartSeries. Of all the best electric toothbrushes we reviewed, this one came out on top.

If you are looking for the best of the best, then this is the perfect choice, though there is a lot of variety out there if you are looking for something else. So, what did we like so much about the Oral-B Pro 5000?

This toothbrush comes with the brush head that we love. The small circular brush head is great for surrounding each tooth and deep cleaning it, getting in between the teeth and helping to floss the teeth before you pull the floss out.

You have five brushing options when it comes to brushing your teeth which offers a lot of flexibility. We like the pressure sensor. There is a lot to love about this toothbrush but what we love most is the Bluetooth communication.

If you have a smart device, you can set up a Bluetooth communication between your smart device and the toothbrush. This will give feedback from the toothbrush to your smart device allowing you to see where your brushing can be improved.

The feedback loop is great for pinpointing where you need to put your focus when you are brushing your teeth. When it came to all 15 toothbrushes, the Oral-B Pro 5000 beat the competitors. We would recommend this toothbrush to anyone.

On A Budget?

best electric toothbrushes 2018

If you are looking for something a little more budget friendly but which will still effectively clean your teeth, then we recommend the Fairywill Electric Toothbrush.

The Fairywill Electric Toothbrush has a great price point. If you are on a budget, then you are going to get an electric toothbrush which will outperform a lot of other electric toothbrushes on the market. So, what do we like so much about it?

With 35,000 strokes per minute, you get a lot more than many more expensive toothbrushes. This speed of oscillation means that you get a deep clean of your teeth.

If you are switching over from a manual toothbrush, then you are going to see extremely positive results in your tooth and gum health. We also like the short charging time and long battery life once it has charged. This toothbrush may not have the functionality of the Oral-B Pro 5000, but it will still clean your teeth and gums.

Conclusion

Oral health is extremely important. There is no single electric toothbrush which will be right for everyone. The two we have recommended will be great for almost anyone but if you are looking for something else, then there are some great electric toothbrushes on our list.

The most important thing is to choose the toothbrush which is right for you and cleans your teeth effectively. Take a look through our list and choose the one which is right for you.

Thanks for this buyers guide. I’ve used a normal toothbrush all my life but my new roommate has recently told me electric toothbrushes are SO much better so I’m thinking of upgrading but don’t know where to start. I’ll probably go with the Oral-B White Pro 1000 for the simple reason it’s budget friendly but high quality enough to beat the competition. I’m also switching from a regular toothbrush, and as you say, I’m going to see positive results and can’t wait! Thanks for all your help.

We use the Oral B Pro 5000 with the bluetooth.  My wife and I both have one and having both been in love with oral b for a while now it was a no brainer for us.  The bruising is really great although flossing action can never replace regular flossing.  It helps a bit.

I paid money for the bluetooth to tell me about my brushing habits, but I know my habits so I don’t need my toothbrush to tell me.

Overall it is a great product.  It is a bit expensive, but I can overlook that for what I get.  Will buy again when needed.

I must say that this article helped me a lot because I always wanted to get electric toothbrush but I was afraid of harming my teeth. Oral-B is definitely the most popular brand that I have heard of and that is the one that I will buy. Price is very affordable. I will get one for my wife and me.

Thank you for preparing this list of the 15 best electronic toothbrushes.   My son told me that he wants an electric toothbrush for Christmas.    I’ll admit that prior to reading this, I did not know anything about electric toothbrushes.  I thought it was kind of weird that he would ask for an electric toothbrush when normal, manual toothbrushes, seem to do just fine.    Yet, this article has done a great job of explaining the benefits of electric toothbrushes compared to a normal toothbrush.    You have also given me some insight as to why I find myself getting cavities on one side of my mouth but not the other.    I must not be brushing that side as well.    Your list of the best electronic toothbrushes is going to make my shopping easier.  Thanks again.

      Hello Sondra

Electric toothbrushes apart from doing a better job of cleaning your teeth look much cooler and are filled with technology which is probably the reason your son wants one. I personally have the Oral B 5000 electric toothbrush but all that have been mentioned in this review are a good solid choice.

I love electronic brushes, before i thought it is a waste of money and it is for lazy people, but it’s not true! Electronic brush compares to the manual will take care of your theeth much more better. During my first pregnancy i had a big problem with gums bleeding, for pregnant ladies its dangerous as it can cause serious infection. My dentist told me to start using electronic brush (6 years already) since then I used the manual brush very exceptionally. Currently, I am using Oral-B White Pro 1000, but planning to go for some better one. From your post, i like Genius PRO this seems to be a really good one. Thank you for such a detailed post.

    Hi,

Toothbrushes are essential tools that cannot be done away with because of their importance.

Gone are the days when people care less about oral hygiene and physical appearance, technology has indeed revolutionised all things. Electric toothbrushes might be expensive but the are worth the stress as the removal of plaque and tartar are giving many people problems. It also help in reducing brushing too hard due to the presence of pressure sensor.

I think you should have included the prices of the ones you reviewed which will help buyers in deciding which to go for.

      Hi Kabirat

That’s a really good point. I am going to go back and put in the prices for each toothbrush. The only problem is that Amazon tends to have offers running all the time so prices can change from day to day.
